Heroman EP 1

So the first episode of Heroman has aired. For those that don’t know Heroman is the anime child of Stan Lee (of Marvel fame.) and Studio Bones (Full Metal Alchemist, and Darker Than Black to name a few). This was a series that has gone from being something that was lowest on my watch list for this season; to somewhere solidly up near the top. Most of my hesitance came from Stan Lee, and the idea that a western comic creator could make an interesting anime. Upon seeing the stellar animation from one of the PV’s it had caught my attention and I decided with some reluctance to give it s shot. I am glad to say that from the opening to the ending Heroman has blew my expectations, which were fairly low, out of the water.

The first episode may not have been as action packed as I would’ve expected, but as an introductory episode it served a lot of purpose and had my attention the whole way through. Animation, something I like to bring up when talking about Bones, was gorgeous the whole way through. Music was all appropriate for the moods. I surprisingly liked the personality of the protagonist Joey and his friend Psy (I am watching this subbed so my apologies if his name is spelt different.). They came off as reasonably level headed and not scarred by angst like many wimpy male leads. I am not sure yet if it is good or bad that I noticed a lot of similarities between Joey and Peter Parker. His Professor role model, living with his Grandmother, or even just his character traits all ring of the familiar tone of Spiderman. At the least for now I really enjoy this series and look forward to the next episode.
